Yoast Pros And Cons

Web.com Pros and Cons

What is Web.com?

Web.com is a website hosting platform, offering the resources to help you build your website, and subsequently host it.

They are a popular company, with over 3 million customers. Offering two different methods of building a website, they seem to appeal mostly to those who do not have an aptitude in developing websites.

On the platform, you are able to

1. Build your own website using their platform, or

2. Have their experts design and build your website for you

This is a great option for those who want to focus on other parts of their business, and don’t really have the time or energy to work on and maintain a website.

After spending much time on the website, and then doing some research on what current and past customers though, I was a little shocked. The reviews weren’t great.

But we will get into that shortly!

Let’s look at some core categories, and you can decide whether or not this platform is for you!

Is There Any Training?

Well, yes and no.

You have access to a couple of tutorial videos, but they are very short. And you cannot access them until after you have signed up.

There is, however, a live training coach available at all times.

When you enter the web.com website, a little box will pop up, usually asking if you need help, or if you found what you were looking for.

In fact, every few seconds one of these boxes will pop up. Helpful if you need help, I suppose! (Slightly annoying, if not).

As far as comprehensive training, or step-by-step tutorials, this hosting platform is a little lacking.

If you are an experienced online business owner, this would be OK for you.

If, however, you are a newbie, this could pose a problem.

Creating a website can be very overwhelming and complicated at times, so some training to fall back on would be nice, just so you do not have to keep asking the training coach the same questions over and over again.

Blog Comprehensive Training

You do have the ability to sign up for training courses over subjects such as SEO and PPC advertising, but keep in mind that on this website everything seems to come with an extra price tag.

To sum things up…

Most of the time you will be navigating through the building of your website with no consistent training. In comparison with lead competitor’s such as Wealthy Affiliate and HostGator (review), the training at web.com is very minuscule.

So, there are a few different packages that you can choose from when signing up at web.com.

Below is a chart listing the prices for the first month for the 3 types of packages available in the website builder.

Prices At Web.com

It’s important to note that after the first month, the prices will rise.

  • The Builder option will be $22.95 after the first month
  • The Builder + Marketing option will be $32.95 after the first month
  • The Builder + Marketing + eCommerce option will be $42.95
  • The Build-It-For-Me option will really skyrocket to a starting price of $114.95

The initial prices are quite nice, but if you are looking for the best price per month, you will find a better deal elsewhere.

As far as hosting your website goes, below is a list of the starting prices, and also what the price will be after the first month:

Hosting Prices At Web.com

And here are the benefits of each package, so you know what you are getting for the price:

Prices At Web.com

Remember that if you would like to both build your website and have it hosted at web.com, you will be paying two separate prices.

Also, the build-it-for-me option is FREE the first month. However. You must agree to pay for your site to be hosted and maintained by web.com after the first month. So there is a little bit of a catch.

This is a good option for you if you have no interest in running your website.

There are a lot of busy people out there who don’t want to spend all of their time on a website!

While considering price, also consider that if you would like a good mobile version of your website, it also costs extra.

The main thing that hurt the rating in the price category is that you are unable to TRY BEFORE YOU BUY. You basically cannot test drive the site builder at all. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to obligate myself to pay for something that I won’t like.

Overall, I would say that compared to leading competitors, the prices are a little high. Especially when you consider that you are paying for each aspect of your business individually.

What Tools Are Available?

When you are in the business of blogging, like I am, you need access to constant updates in resources and training, as well as the ability to use tools for your website that the competitors don’t have.

The Build-It-For-Me option has great tools, as you will have an expert designer available to produce a quality website for you. There is very little hassle involved.

If you choose this option, your website will also be built with marketing and SEO in mind, meaning that your website might have a higher chance of being ranked in search engines.

It never hurts to have expert help. This is a pretty cool tool to have.

If you choose to build your website yourself, you will have access to a website builder that features over 2500 templates to choose from. Your website will likely look clean and professional.

The downside to this is that, once you begin to check out the large number of themes, you start to notice that a lot of them look very similar, lacking originality.

Also, the platform that I use has a function in which you are able to take a peek at what your website would look like if you chose a different theme. It will take all of your website data and transfer it to the new theme, just so you are able to see if you like it or not.

You are not able to preview different themes on this website builder. You choose a theme, and if you don’t like it you must choose another, which is very time-consuming.

It has also been widely suggested that the website builder is not very user-friendly.

It is difficult to navigate through, and being that there is not a lot of training, it can be a bit frustrating.

Again with the beginners, you will likely need a little more assistance, and a little more usability.

Is There Support?

There is, like above mentioned, a live chat constantly available.

You are able to ask your question, and receive a direct answer. This is a nice feature, as there are SO MANY questions when beginning a website.

You can also call one of the 1-800 numbers the company provides, depending on what type of question or issue you have.

My only issue with this is…why are there so many numbers?

I’m a little spoiled, with a community of support, so I will say that the support is substantially better with competing platforms.

How User-Friendly is Web.com?

The website is a bit confusing in itself before you even sign up, and then it is more or less up to you to completely produce your website, should you choose to build your website yourself.

To the true beginner, the start-up would probably be alarmingly difficult.

I would definitely suggest doing a good bit of research on website creation, SEO, analytics, and necessary components of successful content before signing up so that you are well-prepared and are able to create your website without being lost.

If you need information on content creation, click here.

I would say that the better option for this website would definitely be the Build-It-For-Me strategy.

This way, you wouldn’t have to worry about all of the in’s and out’s, and the website would look and feel professional.

What’s the Final Word?

review of web.com

The reason that I was unable to give web.com a high overall rating, is that I find comprehensive training and step-by-step support irreplaceable.

Combined with the fact that after the promotional first month rate is dropped, the prices are higher than other platforms. Platforms that provide a higher quality of training and more tools and support.

I think that building a website requires knowledgeable people sharing their knowledge with you, and that’s the way it is at my platform.

The only option that seems feasible for a beginner at web.com is Build-It-For-Me.

For those more advanced, nothing about this site hosting platform should be too difficult. I find that it is more suited for advanced website creators.

If you are a beginner and are looking to create a website, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Hello, and thank you for your review. I’ve been looking at GoDaddy.com and Name.com and comparing the two programs. Recently came across the Web.com. You saved me some time and effort figuring out which one to choose. When I finished reading your review, you mentioned the wealthy affiliate program. And I quickly clicked through to see what you had to say about it. When I finished your wealthy affiliate review, I am convinced wealthy affiliate is the type of program that works for me.

That’s what I really hate about webhosting companies; they bump up the price after a year so much that once I was unable to keep my website. It was with iPage. And We.com brings the price up after the first month itself. Do you know if that price goes up again after a year? Or is it that because they already increased the price that the price will remain the same for as long as you renew the domain?

I host my websites at WA where there will never be an increase in pricing. Where hosting for one domain could cost $200 for one website with other hosting, I chose WA to host my websites (upto 25 of them) for a flat fee of $359 per year. That includes all the SSL certificate and security. In my opinion, nobody can beat this.

Thank you for reading and for sharing your experience!
Yes, there are a lot of fine print hidden costs with many of these hosting companies, and it comes as quite a shock after you have already signed up!

I believe that the price remains the same after a year, but the prices are always subject to change.

And I totally agree with you! Wealthy Affiliate has not changed their prices since their beginning – 13 years ago!

      Have a wonderful day!,

    Thanks for the insights!
I´ve been with several hosting companies and have had trouble with some of them. Since I moved to the WA hosting everything has been going just fine…
